ARTIST BIO

Jey Koehler

I am a self-taught artist who makes a living as an academic veterinary pathologist and biomedical researcher.  Because the inside of the body is where I spend a tremendous amount of time both literally and philosophically, it often finds its way into my work through color, shape, and texture. My artistic language is often rooted in an attempt to translate the tension between my intuitive artistic comprehension of the world and the reductionist dismantling I engage in as a scientist.  I regard each of them as a valid method for unravelling the secret complexities of the organism, whether at the subatomic level or the scale of the universe.
