POSTCARDS FROM THE HEDGE
stolen poems for survival and healing
There are times in many artists' lives in which they develop a temporarily strained relationship with their preferred medium, which in my case is paint. These small 4"x6" collage postcards are my response to a recent paint-problematic episode in my own life, which has coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic and a dramatic reduction in physical studio space. The imagery and words of these "stolen poems" are taken from varied sources, mainly technical manuals, mid-20th-century health books and home decorating guides, anatomy and surgery textbooks, and various other things that unintentionally yield up sage advice when strategically re-contextualized. The book that served as the genesis for the series was a guide to surviving in Antarctica, so in that spirit I offer these up as equal parts survival manual and dada therapist. May they help you heal from any solitary or interpersonal calamity you may be facing. Be well.
